while thematically they do not correlate, what the figure should show to anyone is the grand scale of animal slaughter that occurs in the united states in a given day. it is meant to give perspective on the meat industry.

well i think the fact that 12 million animals are killed every 4 hours for food in the US is a striking enough statement without simultaneously (and quite offensively) comparing meat eaters to nazis.

this statement was not made to compare meat-eaters to nazis. i think that is perhaps the most ridiculous thing i’ve heard in a while. what it does is quite honestly and effectively educates the otherwise-naive public about the epic disaster that is the meat industry in america alone. it has nothing to do with the premise of the holocaust. it does not belittle the seriousness of the holocaust (unless you very seriously denounce the importance of animals, which is an entirely different conversation yet one i’m willing to have). it rather throws the shock factor statistic out there because to be damn honest, no one would know otherwise.

For what it’s worth, I think I understand what you were trying to get across. Allowing for some tangible comparison to an abstract statistic is critical to get a message across, and since it’s a message that is very dear to you, I can’t blame you for choosing a somewhat shocking comparison. I don’t think it’s sensible or responsible to imply in any way that you are likening meat-eating to the holocaust. You have to take a stand for what you believe in.
